September Weblog

September 29, 2010

My blog turned 9 years old!

While the technology keeps evolving, the need for Web accessibility remains the same. Sometimes the only way sites become accessible is when someone sues. Case in point is Donna Jodhan, a blind Canadian woman, who is suing the federal government due to Ottawa's inaccessible government Web sites. Instead of learning from their mistakes, the government sunk time, money and energy into defending their technological shortcomings. They could have invested these efforts in improving their sites and removing the barriers to accessibility. Even though it can be a hard pill to swallow, change is often the best medicine. Let's hope we see positive accessibility changes soon as a result of this case.
